Essex Man Does Walking

A walking journal of an Essex man

First Test of the Gram-counter Gear VLT-1P

I was out helping out at a cub camp this weekend. A very hot camp! I thought I might as well try out the tent before the long trek next week which will probably be in similar conditions.

This is my second time putting it up so I learned from the first. Peg the ground sheet out first. Then use your hiking pole to support the inner. Peg out some guy ropes to keep it in place. Then use the second hiking pole as a support for the external wall with the guy ropes provided to add room and give more support to the tent as a whole.

I was a bit worried when I chose this tent, that as I am 6’4” tall it might be a bit snug. However, I had no problem sleeping in it for the two nights as cub camp. There is ample storage space in the awning and some room beside you in the tent. There was a little condensation in the morning but not as much as feared. This is probably because of the hotter conditions at night at the moment.

At under 1kg and £75 at Ultra Light Outdoor gear it is well worth it.
